Want to Scare a Lightspeed Research Employee? Try a Snake or an Insect
By Kelly Noguerol, Chief Talent OfficerAll Hallows Eve approaches. To distract us from debates of GOP presidential hopefuls, RIM service issues and other things that really scare us, we surveyed our employees around the world about what frightens them most. Here’s what they said:
Among employees in the America’s Region, snakes were the scariest, followed by politicians and insects. Employees in our European region were most frightened by insects, with underwater creatures and heights tied for second place. In the Asia Pacific Region, employees cited snakes and insects as what scares them most. Interestingly, Asia Pacific is the only region where no one listed clowns.
Our Staff’s Top 3 Scariest Things by Region
Americas Region | EMEA Region | APAC Region |
Snakes 27% | Insects Underwater Creatures, 24% |
Snakes 44% |
Politicians 15% | Heights 15% | Insects 31% |
Insects 14% | Clowns, politicians (tie) 12% | Underwater Creatures 19% |
We also asked our staff to name a fear that wasn’t on the list or elaborate further on their biggests fears that were on the list. Here are some of the more entertaining responses:
“The thought that food left in the communal fridge for more than 2 weeks might gain self actualization and rise up against us.”
“WASPS! They are aggressive and have no fear at all. They even get drunk in the summer on rotting apples and then terrorise the locals! I should be used to that kind of behaviour living in South London, but these guys have big stings on their bums!”
“When I look in the mirror first thing in the morning.”
“A.J. Burnett pitching in a critical game.”
“Clowns are wicked scary… all that make-up, red nose and big shoes… just gives me the willies every time…”
“The vermin that are most definitely lurking in my cubicle neighbor’s very messy desk!”
So tell us. What scares you?
